I took Miss Penny to a sneak of Just Friends - the new Ryan Reynolds comedy. We enjoyed the movie – be prepared for a predictable story-line – and had great time. The laughs are frequent and I completely lost it a couple of time (none serious enough to inspire “the look” from Miss Penny). We both found the fact that the movie has a very decent underlying story to be a nice change from the usual.
Basic story: Chris (Reynolds) is the fat, geeky kid that has a crush on his girl pal Jamie (Amy Smart) and gets shot down at the High School yearbook signing party. He runs away, finds fame/fortune/girls. Events bring him back home to see the old crowd, including his former crush. Can he move from the friend zone to boyfriend?
The physical humor is great. I especially enjoyed the slap-fight relationship between Chris and his younger brother (nicely played by Chris Marquette). At each others throat at the drop of a hat, they can just as easily turn it off for a serious expression of family love. The spit scene…well, I say go see it!
BTW…ladies, I don’t think I am out of line in saying this – there is not a single guy in the world that wants to be told “I love you like a brother”. We would rather eat bugs than hear that. Seriously.
Interesting reading - keep up the trend.

Men don't want to hear that women love them like a brother and women don't want to be told "it's not you, it's me." (Among other things, of course)
